Social Housing Efficiency - Efficiency Technical Note by Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE)
Whilst it is recognised that the ODPM and the Treasury are working with a range of partners to develop these areas, APSE is continuing to highlight to Government the best practice already followed by members of APSE’s Performance Networks. Additionally, it continues to be important to promote and utilise the commercial skills that exist with in-house housing service managers and directors, who have consistently delivered efficiencies in both an internal and external competitive market. Authorities will need to draw upon those skills to develop and deliver a long term and sustainable response to the efficiency agenda.
Right First Time: How Housing Associations are Improving their Responsive Repairs - Andrew Thomas, Philip Johnson and Richard Veale
This report examines how housing associations are changing their repairs services to respond to tenants' requirements and the government's efficiency agenda. The report argues that the pressure for efficiency will encourage all associations to consider a variety of options for improving their service. These range from the consolidation of group structures, through partnerships with other associations, to solutions based on contracting out the service to specialist providers. The report was funded by the Housing Corporation and draws on case study evidence and qualitative work with housing association tenants in England.
